Let’s talk about this hesitation for a moment.
This lack of confidence or clarity has been costing you a lot, too much to ignore. You’ve been pushing for awhile and it’s exhausting. You’ve been following other experts about how often to post, what to post, what to do, when to do it. Some were good, some not so good. But you know it’s not their fault that you are in resistance to it all. You know its about you, your beliefs, your energy.

What does the Impostor Complex look like?
No, this isn’t the infamous “Impostor Complex”. Just my super cute 3 year old daughter ready for the beach in Mexico in 2020. Does she care what you think about what she’s wearing? Nope.
Examples of how the fear of being seen could be showing up for you:
You are resistant to going “on record” in your content creation with video or audio because you might be misrepresented later, or judged for your point of view.
You are fantastic in front of a live crowd, but you resist taking your message to video or doing a scalable social media promotional campaign.
You have a book (or training program) that you know is the start of something epic. Yet you hesitate to put it out there and allow it to attract the right people.
You have a business with employee’s and you feel the call to expand, grow, and truly step into the visionary role. But you keep getting dragged back to administrative or organizational tasks.

Women were taught to push themselves …
There are a few layers to this. I call them “The 8 Pillars of the Impostor Complex” and I go into more detail below.
But first …is this - too many women were taught to push themselves. Our society, for a long time now, has valued a more masculine approach to, well, everything! The tides are now finally turning, but still, the tendency for most women in business is to push when they really want something.
Many women have been taught that their sacrifice is necessary. Whether this be for cultural reasons, religious reasons, or possibly even a biological need to ensure the survival of the family and tribe, many women have bought into the lie that they need to sacrifice themselves by taking care of everyone else first.
Enter today’s woman. She knows, consciously, that pushing herself doesn’t work. She knows that her sacrifice is no longer called for. She Knows this in her brain … but not in her body and heart, not in that deeper part of herself that is actually running the show.
How can I say this? Because almost all of the 500 clients I’ve worked with to date were women and almost all of them were doing some version of this “Push and Sacrifice” pattern.
I call it “The Helpers Paradox”.
Stated simply, this paradox is that the more you NEED to help, the less able to help you actually are. This is why it can be so exhausting to keep giving and giving. Because if you could take a step back, take better care of yourself, you would actually have a greater impact.
But there is one more twist to this story …
Today’s woman in business knows that her sacrifice is no longer needed. So she found a solution.

Today’s high achieving, go-getter, veteran women in business have taken to High Performance work, and its working.
They are happier, more successful, living more fulfilled lives with a better work life balance.
Experts like Brendon Burchard and Marie Forleo are doing fantastic work, and it has supported thousands of women too truly rock their lives and businesses. And I for one am all for it. (I have both copies of “High Performance Habits” and “Everything is figure-outable” right here on my desk!)
And yet, there is still something missing.
What is it?
It’s your blind spot. Created by negative beliefs, energetic patterns and blocks.
It’s that place where you keep lying to yourself but you can’t see it.
It’s that rock in the middle of the cave that you keep hitting in the dark.
Its your doubt, your fears of being seen, its all the stuff that you shove down or put to the side while you are busy applying high performance habits or tactics.
What if you could simply release all of those, rather than overcome them?
What if it didn’t have to take so much effort to get your best work done each day?
What if you could be more in alignment, have more inner peace and ease?
I say that the secret to having peace and ease while you expand your business, without burning out, is having a belief clearing expert in your back pocket, one who knows when you are … um… how do I say this politely?
Lying to yourself - When you are believing the lies that your ego is telling you are true.
Ouch, I know, right?!
How about “Lovingly call you out on the elephant in the room that is hiding your blind spot”?
Whatever we call it, seeing that “Thing” and clearing it at its energetic core will allow you to drop resistance so that you can get back to doing your best work.
The Impostor Complex: A key to inner peace and business success
One other piece holding experienced women in business back from being fully seen online is the Impostor Complex.
There is nothing new about that term. You’ve heard it before, along with the landmark study done back in 1978 showing the high rates of Impostor Complex among high achieving women. That study has since been complimented with a new study in 2019 showing how both women and men are deeply affected by it, but men are less likely to want to talk about it leading many to think “it’s just a girl thing”.
However, I have found that there are 8 pillars to this Impostor Complex. This gives my clients a clear road map to follow in our work together. This is so powerful. This Inner work can feel very nebulous, vague and mysterious. It’s helpful to have a step-by-step process!
To illustrate these 8 pillars I have a short story.
Can you relate?
“One day Susan started 1. PROCRASTINATING on creating some video’s for her promotional campaign. She started to feel a bit apprehensive about putting them out there. Before long she could feel all the idea’s and actions that were piling up in her head. She was feeling 2. OVERWHELMED.
Then, on cue, her 3. INNER CRITIC jumped in and started prodding her with thoughts of self doubt. “Who do you think you are?!?! Why did you think that was a good idea? No one’s going to watch those anyway.”
Little did she know, she was slowly but surely developing a case of the 4. IMPOSTOR COMPLEX.
Over time it started to feel almost normal to be 5. PLAYING SMALL. She started getting deep into her other work, and honestly pushing a bit to make up for where she was holding back. She knew that playing smalll was really just a way to stay safe. She was beginning to really resent the fact that she wasn’t fully 6. OWNING HER EXPERTISE. She could feel it, she was hiding.
To ease the internal tension she unconsciously gave into 7. PEOPLE PLEASING + OVER GIVING, thinking it would help, but it didn’t. It just gave her a much bigger to do list and she became more exhausted, pushing even more to make up for all the lost time.
Then one day she realized she had even developed crappy 8. BOUNDARIES. She had to drop commitments that were important to her, limit her time in specific areas and say many No’s that she didn’t want to say. She could see herself snap back emotionally at people who had “Crossed her boundaries”, but she knew it was more to do with her then them.
Looking back, Susan realized that through all of of this the worst part was, she had lost a part of herself.

The 3 ways to navigate the Impostor Complex
(Why I believe one on one support works best)
On your own.
You can navigate these 8 Pillars on your own. You’ve been doing it till now just fine.
This often looks like reading a book, taking a specific free course, or going for a walk in the woods to support yourself at critical moments. This is a solid choice that many women choose.
The challenge with this approach is that you could end up getting lost in your own head, fears and lack of self belief. And you could be lost there for a very long time. I call this “The cave” and I talk about it in more detail below.
If you’ve been in the cave for awhile, and you’re ready to move out. Read on!
The DIY approach.
This looks like taking programs and courses where you have little to no one on one support with the actual leader of the course. You might get to ask questions in the community, or on a group call, or possibly with a coach that the leader has trained.
This can work extremely well for some people. If you are great at sticking to a schedule, if you don’t hide out much, if you have a lot of the pieces sorted out and just need some accountability to take this thing home, this is a great option.
The down side is that you don’t have an expert in your back pocket. An expert that you meet with, one on one, who puts the issue on the table, in plain sight. This means you could keep hiding, and not identifying the real beliefs, the stories, the lie’s you’ve been telling yourself.
Hire an expert, one on one.
You know the power of having the right coach, or consultant, in your corner. You have experienced it before.
This is especially true when it comes to being willing to be fully seen online and scale your business. There are so many places to hide! There is so much busy work, (*ahem* ”Important work”) to be done.
The downfall of this is it’s often more expensive. The other down side is that you really REALLY have to check for a fit before hiring anyone. In a group program if you start loosing that warm fuzzy feeling for the leader, you can focus on the work. Not so with the one on one approach. That is why its crucial too make sure that this person is the one for you.
The upside, and I feel its a BIG upside which is why this is my favourtie way, is that you get results. You get full the attention on you. You get someone right there, in your corner, just for you.

The Cave and the light
Your journey to scaling your business, being confident enough to be seen online for who you truly are, is like walking through a dark cave.
You can see that there is a light at the end, and that is the destination. You want to get there.
But you stumble often, you stub your toe. It’s frustrating.
